24 Jesus is Born

This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger. Luke 2:12

The Story

An angel appeared to the Virgin Mary and told her that she would give birth to a son and that he would be called Jesus, the Son of God. [1]

Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken, and so Mary went with her fiancé, Joseph, to his hometown, Bethlehem, to be registered.

When they arrived, there was no room for them at the inn, so they had to stay in a stable. Jesus was born there in the stable, and they wrapped him in cloth and placed in him a manger.

Angels appeared to shepherds nearby, declaring that the Savoir Jesus had been born. The shepherds soon found the baby just as the Angels had said and then spread the word about the wondrous birth. [2]

The Significance

Jesus, who was there from the beginning, declared throughout the Bible, and foretold by the prophet Isaiah 700 years earlier, has finally come [2]. A miraculous birth. Born to a poor family [3] in a humble setting [4], the King of Kings and Lord of Lords [5] comes to live among us [6]. He is fully man and fully God. Feeling pain, discomfort, and temptation, but being perfect and sinless [7], he will live, die on the cross and rise again to become the savior of the world.
