The priests then brought the ark of the Lord’s covenant to its place in the inner sanctuary of the temple, the Most Holy Place, and put it beneath the wings of the cherubim. 1 Kings 8:6
The Story
Solomon, David’s son, became the next king of Israel, and God blessed him and gave him wisdom. King Solomon commissioned the building of the temple of God. [1]
It took seven years to build the temple. When the temple was complete, they brought the ark of the covenant to the temple and placed it in the inner room beneath giant cherubim statues. Like the tabernacle, this was the holiest room separated by a veil where only the high priest was allowed. He alone could enter to meet with God on behalf of the people. [2]
After the ark was placed in the temple, a cloud, the glory of the Lord, filled the temple. [3]
The Significance
The tabernacle and the temple were places where God dwelled among us. When Jesus was born, he became the temple: God with us. [4]
